FOUR-CHANNEL TOPOLOGY

WLAN popularity creates increasing traffic
The demand on IEEE 802.11b/g wireless networks (WLANs) continues to grow in the business world as their popularity and productivity brings an increasing number of users demanding more bandwidth for more devices onto these networks.
While this increasing demand causes some traditional wireless networks to fail, all Summit Technologies designed and implemented WLANs can handle these demands because every Summit WLAN is a high-density design. One of the cornerstones of our high-density networks is our innovative four-channel topology.
Summit’s innovative four-channel solution
The standard design for WLANs with multiple access points utilizes only three non-overlapping channels (1, 6, and 11) in the 2.4 GHz ISM band—a design practice that dates back to the origins of the 802.11b specification.
Summit Technologies’ research and development group has determined that the three-channel approach is unnecessarily restrictive and, in fact, makes WLANs vulnerable to problems, particularly in multi-story and high-density deployments.
Summit has pioneered the development of a powerful four-channel design (channels 1, 4, 8, and 11), which it has successfully deployed in every WLAN installed since 2002. This design provides more flexible frequency channelization, and it enables Summit to achieve high-density access point placement in all deployments.
Quiet but crucial: antenna design and power modulation
Summit combines the four-channel approach with proper antenna design and power modulation for all access points. With the four-channel topology, there is negligible channel overlap. By determining the optimal order of channel placement, the issue of adjacent channel overlap is eliminated, creating more flexibility for channel design. This results in robust throughput, delivering fast seamless roaming capable of handling a high-density of clients running multiple applications, all while still supporting Quality of Service (QoS) for Voice over IP (VOIP) traffic.
Every solution a custom solution
Summit’s trained wireless technicians implement a four-channel deployment unique to every environment, ensuring you of not only the most effective, up-to-date implementation of 802.11b/g wireless networks, but the best possible WLAN performance.
Our ability to deliver this high performance in all environments is the basis of our assurance to you for Wireless that Works. Guaranteed.™
